Complex partial seizures are epileptic attacks which involve a greater degree of impairment of consciousness than simple partial seizures. Typically loss of consciousness and behavioural and emotional changes are transitory. They may begin as simple partial seizures, or start with impairment of consciousness, and amnesia and automatism are both features of the attacks. Temporal lobe and frontal lobe seizures are often in this category.
