EQUIP (www.equip.nhs.uk) is an NHS website of quality information for patients and carers (Electronic Quality Information for Patients), developed at the NHS Library Services Development Unit in the West Midlands.

There are over 60 health and social care topics including one on Men's Health, each topic has 5 sections:
1) links to information-rich websites that have either been written or checked by doctors
2) links to other useful websites that have been evaluated
3) National support groups and helplines (contacted every 12 months to check details)
4) West Midlands contacts and support groups (contacted every 12 months to check details)
5) Other useful information

There is a large selection of information resources in languages other than English. There is also a Find your nearest... section which has links to databases of accredited/state registered practitioners in everything from Acupuncture to shiatsu. You can also search EQUIP's database of over 2000 support groups and organisations by location and topic. As well as the national information, each county in the West Midlands region has its own portal with lists of NHS services, social care services and benefits and community information and local events and volunteering opportunities.

Patient support groups for major topics have been involved in discussions about the content and format of the website. EQUIP offers a trustworthy and useful resource to health professionals as well as directly to the patients, carers and the public. EQUIP is being used as a primary resource for all NHS Direct call centres in UK it has a link from nhs.uk and many NHS trust websites. We undertake regular review of current content and checking contact details of support groups.
