That according to a new poll, which was conducted by the Charlton Research Company on behalf of Research!America. The survey also found that 94 percent of Americans think health research is equally important as homeland security, and 51 percent want President Bush to request Congress to increase funding for health-related research in his 2007 budget proposal, which is due out next month. The poll surveyed 800 adults in January and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Approximately 51 percent of those surveyed said they think a greater national commitment to medical research would help keep U.S. healthcare costs in check, and 63 percent said they'd be willing to pay an additional $1 per week in taxes to fund more research.
